Nigeria’s afro pop music star, Doyinsola showed the world a glimpse of what to expect from her in 2017, when she participated in a popular music talent show, Star Quest, and since then, the graduate of Economics from Bowen University has continued to work on her craft and put her music on the consciousness of many people. Doyinsola, who has now become one of the most sought-after in the industry, returned from a US tour recently and said her career has taken a new dimension in this interview with SEGUN ADEBAYO.
Your music career has taken a new dimension in the last six months. You have dropped new materials and even went on a US tour. What are you feeling like now?
I feel like a super star. On a serious note, it’s a huge milestone for me in my career and I just thank God and my management team 2325 Entertainment for making it happen. My US tour 2018 was invaluable and one I’ll remember for a long time.

Tell us more about that tour as I heard you truly had a great time in the US?
I truly had a great time. I performed in the beautiful cities of Chicago, Indiana and Columbus, as well as had a couple of interviews. The people were quite receptive and it was quite overwhelming. One of the major highlights for me was when I met a random dude and he was watching my song Bamidele on YouTube. He was sitting next to me and he didn’t even know I was the Doyinsola. I felt good and he was happy to meet me in person too. So many great moments I must say.
Why was the tour necessary for you at that time?
There couldn’t have been a better time. I am not afraid of taking chances, so when the opportunity came I grabbed it and made the best of it. We’re definitely going back better and stronger. It was great experience and an eye-opener and trust me, the people still want more and we’re working really hard to give them more.
What can you say you gained from the trip?
I was just an opportunity that came at that time and I couldn’t take it for granted. We can’t sit around for the music to just happen on its own, We needed to take steps and make it happen. Every opportunity counts and we sure made the best of it. I established contacts, grew my network, more fan base, and more people outside the shore of Nigeria now know about the brand Doyinsola.
You started 2018 on a low key but you ended on a big note. How do you feel coming into the New Year with such attention?
I keep working, I am not tired. I’m not where I want to be yet but am definitely not where I used to be and it’s a major driving force for me. I have more songs, privileged to work with other artistes and of course the US tour came along. 2019 is about to be lit. When I look back at where I started from and where I am, I just appreciate God. I know am going places and am more determined than before. Great things to come, watch out for me.
In a male-dominated industry, you don’t seem to be struggling. What’s the secret?
It’s God. I believe in my craft and I am in competition with no one. I am just doing my thing and praying for my big break.
What are your plans to make sure you put your music on another level this year?
My team and I are working tirelessly to take the brand to another level. So many songs lined up this year; ideas, plans and positives all year round. We will keep working and growing. We want to keep getting better as a team. We’ve great plans this year and I can’t wait to share with you guys once all arrangements have been solidified.
How would you rate your performance at Small Doctor’s sold-out concert?
The thing is Agege is my hood, I grew up there but most people don’t know. I had a really amazing show. The people of Agege are the realest and they showed me real love. It’s always a pleasure performing there.
Will you drop an album or EP this year?
Like I always say when the time is right, we’ll know what’s next, EP or Album.
What are your fear as you walk into the new year?
I see no fears, at all. All I choose to see is positivities and opportunities.
People think you need to do more to make sure your songs get to the right places so that you can be well known. Do you see it this way?
Absolutely, we’re working towards that and putting more efforts on getting the song to the right places. We’ve more people on board working selflessly. What’s a good song without the right PR.. 2019 we’re ready
How are you coping with pressure from men who see you as a beautiful young lady and want to have a piece of You?
I am coping just fine.
Are you even thinking of settling down early so that you can focus on your career?
About that, I usually don’t like to discuss about my relationship but wait for the big reveal this year.
What’s the relationship between you and your manager like? People are suggesting that there is more to your closeness. Please clear the air?.
I am laughing so hard… please allow me to be close to my manager. This man takes a lot of bullets for me.
What’s your assessment of your career at this point?
I’ll say it’s been amazing. All shades of awesomeness. So far so good. It’s been God and we’ll keep working hard and hope for a brighter days ahead.
