Why I removed SSG, Chief of Staff, others — Gov Yusuf

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has once again dismissed insinuations surrounding the recent cabinet reshuffle, which affected the office of the Chief of Staff, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and five commissioners.

He stated, “Let me remind the public that the action taken was in the best interest of the people of Kano.”

Governor Yusuf made this known when addressing the press during a state executive council meeting at the Government House. He specifically refuted the political insinuations attached to the major cabinet shake-up.

According to a statement signed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Yusuf took the opportunity to debunk the misrepresentation of government actions. He insisted that the reshuffle was carried out in good faith and in the best interest of Kano.

He emphasized, “In recent times, we have made some decisions in the administration, including the cabinet reshuffle. As a result, some have lost their positions in the cabinet, while others have been reassigned to serve in different capacities.”

The statement reads that Governor Yusuf stressed the need to drop some commissioners in order to inject renewed energy that would strengthen government policies.

Yusuf added that the NNPP administration had pledged to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Kano, noting that the urgency to effectively execute its campaign promises necessitated the replacements in the cabinet.

With the appointment of seven new commissioners, who were recently screened and cleared by the state assembly, Governor Yusuf stressed that the cabinet is now reinvigorated with fresh ideas to drive the social and infrastructural development of the state.

Although the Governor acknowledged that those who were dropped from the state executive council would not be distanced from the administration, he assured them of reappointment to serve in another capacity.

“We have promised to deliver the dividends of democracy to our people. Unfortunately, we are already short of time to deliver what we promised, so we need to make changes to speed up the process. We have reshuffled the cabinet to improve the system.

“Let me also say that we have not dropped those affected permanently. We have other roles for them, so I want everyone to accept the decision as it is. For those who have been reassigned, we encourage them to bring their previous experiences to bear in their new roles,” the Governor said.

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf announced that the new commissioners would join the next executive council meeting, and their respective portfolios would be announced in due course.
