The US-based actress, who has returned to her country home, told R at the premiere of the last Tuesday, at Ozone Cinemas, Yaba, Lagos, that she was poised to draw the attention of the society to bipolar, which is usually being overlooked.
The movie entitled: Bipolar (Amodi) featured actors like Jide Kosoko, Lanre Hassan, Yemi Solade, Abdulelateef Adedimeji, Jaiye Kuti, Bimbo Oshin, among others. It was directed by Muyiwa Ademola.
The movie, shot in the US and Nigeria, reflects the story of a lady based abroad, but who soon finds herself back in Nigeria due to temper issues with her boyfriend.
However, along the line, she met a doctor, who was able to walk the journey with her by helping her manage her anger.
Co-incidentally, she had a twin somewhere in the village that also has similar issue.
According to the producer, the suspense-filled movie with a little bit of comedy, has hit the cinemas from August 31 and is distributed by Blue Pictures.
“A lot of people have been asking if I have a bipolar disorder, which must have prompted me to put in a movie. No, I have a lot of people around me suffering from Bipolar, which was exactly what inspired me.
“When I first gave the story to my director, he was skeptical whether it would be accepted in Nigeria or not, but I am not worried about the acceptability than to pass the message across. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed, before it gets out of hand. This is why I took the risk. Instead of producing a comedy or any movie, I feel fulfilled to join forces with other health organisations and medical experts to proffer solution to this problem among people,” she said.
Oyin Laz, however, expressed her delight for joining the trend of putting her work in the cinema, while she charged her colleagues in Yoruba movie industry to follow suit.
