Why I dragged Ayu to court — PDP chairmanship aspirant

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national chairmanship aspirant, Terhile Utaan, has stated that he should not be blamed for dragging his kinsman and former national chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu to court.

Utaan stated this on Wednesday after his consultation visit to the party leaders and elders from the TIV ethnic group under the aegis of G.14 held in Makurdi.

According to him, his going to court was a great sacrifice to save the party which he said was riddled in serious confusion at the time.

“I did not remove Dr Iyorchia Ayu, you all know there was a lot of confusion when he was suspended by his Ijorov council ward because he said he was not removed and the ward chairman said he was removed.

“It was in the light of this confusion that I went to court to seek interpretation of what the constitution of PDP says. So, what I did was courageous and it was an intervention to safe the soul of the party. My going to court was a sacrifice to salvage PDP.”

The national chairmanship aspirant promised to unite all the factions in the party to be able to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressive Congress.

He said he was coming out to provide intervention to the party, adding, “If I emerge my immediate task is to unify the party because the party has lost its soul”.

Also speaking with newsmen, leader of the G.14, Laha Dzever said the aspirant only came to consult the party leadership in the Tiv 14 local government areas of the state about his aspiration.

Dzever said that they told him about the need to unite members of the party if he emerged as the national chairman.

“We bless his aspiration and also told him of the great task ahead if he emerges the national chairman because the party is fragmented,” Dzever said.

It be recalled that the former governor of the state and one-time senator, Gabriel Suswam is also aspiring for the PDP plum seat.
