Why FG, states’ exams should be computer based — Expert

Director, Education Advancement Centre (EAC), Pastor Muyiwa Bamgbose has enjoined the Federal Government and state governments to adopt Information Communication Technology (ICT), especially the use of computers, in the conduct of its examinations.

Bamgbose identified this imperative on the sidelines of the conduct of Computer Based Test (CBT) for applicants for teaching jobs under the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Oyo State.

Speaking, Bamgbose, who is also a consultant with TESCOM, noted that the use of ICT for examinations would reduce the incidence of examination malpractice, promote transparency, and make the process more efficient.

He added computer based tests would enable government to conduct examinations simultaneously across geographical spaces.
He added that the use of ICT for examinations would enable government to release results quickly, as well as reduce the stress and anxiety associated with waiting for examination results.

According to him, ICT will also help address challenges facing the education sector and improve quality of education in the country.

He said, “We have to go for CBT, there should be digital literacy in everyone. We have to grow the economy through ICT. We need to make the environment friendly for small scale business which is the highest employers of labour in the world.”

In his remarks, the chairman, TESCOM, Oyo State, Akinade Alamu stressed that the commission conducted the tests for would-be teaching applicants to guarantee transparency and accountability in the recruitment process.

Meanwhile, some of the applicants urged the state government to decentralise the CBT, at other times, to reduce stress faced by those applicants who are outside the state capital.
