Why FG must consider restructuring —Bishop Aladekugbe

BISHOP of the Diocese of Oyo, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Right Reverend Williams Aladekugbe, has called on the Federal Government to consider restructuring.

He stated this in his charge at the third session of the fifth synod of the Diocese of Oyo on Friday, at St. James’ Anglican Centenary Church, Owode, Oyo, with the theme: I Will Build My Church.

According to him, “It is only restructuring that can guarantee our rights in Nigeria. Cheating, injustice and even corruption can only be wiped out through restructuring.”

While commending the government on the efforts relating to insurgency in parts of the country, he called for more efforts to address herdsmen’s killings.

He said: “We commend the Federal Government and the president for the efforts made so far to get the Chibok girls released and curtailing the activities of Boko Haram in our country. We, however, do not like the indifference to killings in Benue State and other parts of the country by herdsmen.

“It is our strong belief that a commander-in-chief does not treat a security matter with levity because a truly responsible government should be proactive on burning national issues.”

Commending the Oyo State government for “urban renewal efforts,” he called for peaceful process during the elections.

The event was attended by Bishop Isaac Oluyamo of Ijesa North Anglican Diocese; retired Chief Judge of Ondo State and diocesan chancellor, Honourable Justice Chief Sidney Ayodeji Adeyemo Afonja; diocesan deputy chancellor, Mr Emmanuel Odubunmi; diocesan registrar, Reverend Canon Professor Andrew Borokini; diocesan deputy registrar, Mr Gboyega Afonja; other legal officers, Sarah Ojo and Tope Olaniyi, among others.

Bishop Olukemi Oduntan of Ajayi Crowther Anglican Diocese preached at the opening service on Thursday and Vice Chancellor of Ajayi Crowther University and Bishop Theologian of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Bishop Professor Dapo Asaju, will preach at the closing service today.
