Why blame Alao-Akala?

Published by

“In politics, I think it is wiser to leave five minutes too soon than to continue for five years too long,” John Bitten. The alliance of Akala’s Action Democratic Party (ADP) and Adelabu’s All Progressive Congress (APC) for the purpose of winning 2019 Oyo gubernatorial poll has generated a lot of arguments. Many voters, especially those in Ogbomoso geopolitical zone, who do not know the dynamics of politics, have out of annoyance or ignorance, continued to pugnaciously blamed Adebayo Alao-Akala.

But if any of those blaming the man were in his shoes, would they have acted differently? The easiest thing to do is to criticize. Even those who do not have Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) heap blames on him. Some even cursed.

In a more civilised environment, the two sides of the political coin would be critically looked at; Alao-Akala was accused of taking billions of naira for the alliance. Do they even consider how much he committed to 2015 and 2019 gubernatorial elections? The crux of it all is that larger percentage of the money was given to the rapacious bootlickers, hangers-on and hawks.

In the political history of Nigeria, Ogbomoso has ever been in the mainstream. In 1979, it embraced the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) when Dr. Saka Adegbite Balogun and Mr Olatunji Mohammed were Presidential Liaison Officer (PLO) and Minority Leader in the Old Oyo State House of Assembly respectively. In 2015 when the change mantra came, Alao-Akala embraced it and now that change has gone to the next level; we have to move with time. History has many cunning passages. Again, those blaming Alao-Akala should know that cutting word is worse than bowstring.
