A non-governmental organisation, the World Humanitarian Organisation for Peace and Equity (WHOPE), has joined the world to commemorate the 2021 World Peace Day held on September 21, with an international conference.
The event tagged: ‘Peace through sustainable development goals’ was held at the WHOPE Nigeria office, Lagos, while participants from 10 countries including the United States of America (USA), Canada, Ghana, DR Congo, Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, United Kingdom, Pakistan and India joined the virtual event.
The host and Executive Director, WHOPE (Nigeria), Dr James Mercy Obatunmbi stressed that “Humanity is one, anywhere on the surface of the earth. The world needs peace, and development can only take place in a peaceful environment.”
The first session was moderated by Princess Tshepi Motloung (South Africa). Dr Meenakshi Sawhney (India) took the participants in the second session. The Executive Director, Center for SDG Global Education, USA, Dr Ada Juni Okika (CDKA) was the guest of honour.
The speakers at the event include Sarah Ene Unobe (Nigeria); Jehoshaphat Moses (Kenya); Dr Abhaya Ranjan Pattanayak (India); Dr Tamara Omar (USA); Mariam Khana (Pakistan); Ambassador Christy Butler (Nigeria); Victoria Egbejale (Nigeria); Makakuvu Ali El Bey (USA): Collins O. Peter (Nigeria).
Others are Blessing Onwumere (Nigeria); Bolaji Joshua (Nigeria); Queen Nina Womack (Ghana); Dr Arjumand Zaidi (India); Oluwatosin Olatunji (Nigeria); Lloyd Helferty (Canada); John Mukhuta Muhiana (DR Congo); HH. Andrew Williams Jnr. (USA) and the host, Dr James Mercy Obatunmibi (Nigeria), WHOPE President.
Participants who joined the virtual conference from 10 countries across the world emphasized the need to strengthening the ideals of peace as well as to recognize the efforts of those who have and are continuing to work hard to end conflict and promote peace, justice and Fundamental Human Rights across the world.
At the end of the three-hour event, participants including Joshua Oluwafemi Ogunbunmi, Sarah Ene Unobe, Imakhu-Abraham Emmanuel, Ogunmola Bolaji Joshua, Ekpri Success Osahon, Iluyomade Martins, Joy Uzodike, Ebelechukwu Uzodike, Major Bulama Njengo Lander were presented with certificates, awards, and appointed as Humanitarian Goodwill Ambassador to join other awardees Dr Obatunmibi awarded at the World Humanitarian Day for their dedication and excellence in humanitarianism.
