Who will be the top goal scorer at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 is just around the corner and the excitement is already reaching the high point. The event will be held between November 20th and December 18th and will be historic because it will be hosted in a Middle East nation for the first time and the second time in Asia.

With 32 teams from around the world pooled in eight (8) groups, the anticipation is slowly rising and bettors are certainly looking forward to test their betting skills. As the kick-off nears, plenty of betting markets are already available, including the best goal scorer of the tournament, so make sure to shop for the best odds and get in on the betting action.

The top goal scorer contest is likely to be entertaining. To better analyze the possible golden boot winner, Adam Sainz, Football and Betting Expert at Africa Casino Hub will dissect each group and identify the players that could potentially be worth the bet.

Players to watch from each Group Stage

There is no doubt that the group stages will influence who will score the most goals. This means that progressing to the elimination stage and scoring goals will be easy for others and certainly more challenging for some teams.

Group A: South Africa is the only host team that failed to advance to the elimination stage of the FIFA World Cup. An assessment of this year’s host team shows that it will not be easy for them either. Qatar has experienced a string of heavy defeats from Portugal, Serbia, and Ireland followed by a 2-2 draw when they faced Azerbaijan in November last year.

With Netherlands and Senegal also in Group A, both known for high-scoring matches, bettors are almost certainly guaranteed to see plenty of goals. This ultimately means that we could have a few players from this group contending for the top goal scorer’s award. This includes Sadio Mane (81.00) from Senegal and Memphis Depay (23.00) of Netherlands, both of which have proved their skills across some of the top European football leagues.

Group B: England was eliminated in the semi-finals of the previous FIFA World Cup and again at the finals of the Euro 2020. In the upcoming tournament, we should expect better performance as they strive to move a step further, and even win the tournament.

The USA squad may be less threatening but England has failed to defeat them during their last two World Cup meetings. Considering the fact that Harry Kane was the previous Golden Boot winner, we expect him to show similar performance at the upcoming tournament. Some of the best betting sites have already ranked him as one of the favorites to top the scoring chart, offering odds at 9.00. Other players to watch in this group are Christian Pulisic (USA) 81.00 and Gareth Bale (Wales) 81.00.

Group C: This group has Argentina’s Lionel Messi (13.00) and Poland’s Robert Lewandowski (36.00) who have been exceptional at club levels and in international competitions. Lionel Messi inspired his national team to win Copa América in 2021 while Lewandowski has some of the best scoring records in the world of football. The Polish striker holds the record for the fastest hattrick, fastest five-goal haul, and most goals scored as a substitute.

Group D: Here we have France, Australia, Denmark and Tunisia. France is the current world champion and we should expect much from them at the upcoming tournament. Nevertheless, their performance at the Euro 2020 is a matter of concern and is an indication that Didier Deschamps’s strategy might not be working. France will face a significant challenge from Denmark who managed 9 wins from their 10 qualifier matches.

In this group, we should expect great performances from Antoine Griezmann (41.00), Joakim Maehle (500.00), Andreas Skov Olsen (150.000), and Seifeddine Jaziri (140.00) who has managed to score 10 goals in 28 matches for Tunisia. Australia has Aaron Mooy (250.00) from Celtic and Martin Boyle (250.00).

This group also has Kylian Mbappe (10.00) from France who scored four goals at his first World Cup and received the “Best Young Player” award. Karim Benzema (15.00) was called to the French national team after spending 5 years away. It is worth noting that Benzema won the golden boot at the 2021-22 Champions League and scored four (4) goals for the French team at the Euro 2020.

Group E: This will be an interesting group to watch because of the fact that the World Cup 2010 winners (Spain) and the 2014 winners (Germany) will face each other. After a dismal performance in 2014 and 2018, Spain is rebuilding a new team under Coach Luis Enrique and we should expect new tactics.

Germany also had a depressing performance during the last World Cup with a defeat to South Korea at the round of 16. Japan, on the other hand, has a list of experienced European players and will make it difficult for both Spain and Germany.

Players to watch in this group include Ferran Torres (51.00), Álvaro Morata (51.00), and Pedro González López (36.00) from Spain. On the other side, Germany will have high expectations from Leroy Sane (61.000), Thomas Muller (66.000) and Jamal Musiala (66.00). The Japanese squad has Takumi Minamino (100.000) and Daichi Kamada (150.00) while Costa Rica will depend on Joel Campbell (100.00), Gerson Torres (100.00) and Bryan Ruiz (100.00).

Group F: Even though Belgium qualified for the World Cup undefeated, they have a relatively old squad with the biggest doubt in their defense. But that doesn’t overtake the fact that they are the favorite in this group. The Croatian side also looks dangerous and will qualify to the round of 16, as long as Luka Modric defies his age.

Canada will play at the World Cup for the first time in 36 years and will showcase its strengths through Alphonso Davies (250.00), Junior Hoilett (250.00), and Jonathan David (150.00). Other possible top scorers from this group include two Belgium superstars, Kevin De Bryune (50.00) and Romelu Lukaku (37.00), Ivan Perisic (100.00) from Croatia, and Achraf Hakimi (100.00) of Morocco.

Group G:  This group includes Brazil, which is considered as one of the top favorites to win the tournament. The Seleção Canarinho qualified to the World Cup unbeaten and also won the 2020 Olympics where Richarlison (33.00) was the top scorer. Switzerland is also a stronger side but their overdependence on Breel Embolo (100.00) might make it difficult for them to score many goals. Serbia has an attacking strength in Dusan Tadic (150.00) from Ajax, Luka Jovic (150.00) of Fiorentina, and Aleksandar Mitrovic (66.00) of Fulham.

Other notable players in this group are Marquinhos (200.00) and Vini Junior (33.00) from Brazil, Vincent Aboubakar (150.00) and Bryan Mbeumo (150.00) of Cameroon. Neymar (13.00) has been neglected by many fans but a closer look at his scoring habit suggest that he will be running along other contenders, as long as he doesn’t pick an injury. Since his debut with the national team at the age of 18, Neymar has scored 75 goals in 121 appearances.

Group H: This might be the toughest group with a lot of surprises. There is Portugal which qualified behind Serbia after defeating both Turkey and Macedonia in the playoffs. Uruguay under Diego Alonso is on the rise after winning all of their four qualifiers.

South Korea on the other hand qualified after winning seven of their 10 matches. Players we should watch in this group include Diego Jota (16.00), Cristiano Ronaldo (17.00), Luis Suárez (51.00), and Son Heung-Min (81.00). Jota managed to score 15 times in the 2021-22 Premier League season and 5 times in the qualifiers.

The possible top 5 top goal scorers at Qatar World Cup 2022 are;

  1. Harry Kane,Tottenham and  England= 9.00
  2. Kylian Mbappe, PSG and France= 10.00
  3. Neymar, PSG and Brazil= 13.00
  4. Karim Benzema, Real Madrid and France= 15.00
  5. Diego Jota, Liverpool and Portugal=16.00
