On Monday when the government declared a public holiday, I visited my grandparent who reads newspapers so he has a pile of them at home. I was bored so I asked him which newspaper is accurate in its reports, he told me to pick a copy of the Tribune newspaper. When I flipped through it, I read about the possible closure of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a result of the ongoing road construction. One of the things that fascinated me in the paper is the big and clear illustrations on each page rather than small ones that scatter all over the news.
Benita Vincent, Year 9
The first place I read Tribune newspaper was in the Life Fort International school library, three years ago. That day, I was just browsing through the newspaper archives in the library and I picked one. The first page I opened was a column for children ‘Kids& Teens,’ where I found comic, cartoon, and other write-ups which I cannot remember. I like the corner because it was colourful. That day, I wish I could feature on the page but I later forgot about it. I am happy today that my wish came to pass in my new school. In addition to the children’s corner, I read about terrorism in the Northern part of Nigeria.

Tofarati Olubosi, Year 10
My first encounter with the Tribune newspaper was the day my dad bought a copy. I read the headlines and they were quite interesting and informative. I learnt of some current affairs particularly about president Buhari’s whereabouts. I also read some divorce cases, comedy, and sports stories. In addition to these, I got informed about some health issues and other happenings about government. The paper is easy to read and understand because of its use of language.
Pelumi Oyeleke, Year 12
The first day I sighted the Tribune was about three years ago in my area when I wanted to buy a football daily paper and I stumbled on other papers among which was Tribune. I was not familiar with the newspaper because I wasn’t in the country before. The paper was resourceful and had a lot of entertaining and informative stories . I enjoy the sports and entertainment columns. I like the fact that the newspaper broaden my knowledge of the happenings in the society and I want to commend those who have done a good job of sustaining the paper.
Blessed Ajala, Year 7
My dad buys Tribune newspaper and another one. The first day he bought the paper and I went through it, I told him that I liked the content. I read the story of a road accident but of interest was the part that readers were told the importance of using seat belts while in a car irrespective of the distance of the journey. The newspaper has three titles, Daily, Saturday and Sunday Tribune and they all report daily happenings with colourful and good photographs.
Omotayo Akere, Year 12
My dad is a medical doctor so the first place I laid my hands on the Tribune newspapers was at the consultants’ lounge of the University College Hospital (UCH),Ibadan about five years ago though I heard a mention of the name from my parents. In the paper, I read a publication about the kidnapped Chibok girls by Boko Haram. The information was extremely insightful and it exposed me to the dangers of kidnapping by the terrorist groups. I also learnt that the founder of the paper was Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Any time mum buys a copy of the paper, I pick it in order to add to my knowledge.
Comfort Jerry-Oche, Year 7
About four months ago, I got to know about the Tribune newspaper because my dad buys it once in a while. I once read the crimes pages and the aspect
that I liked most was how the thief was caught by the policemen.
Dixon Ajibola, Year 7
I was younger when I got to know about the Tribune newspapers. My mum and I went to a restaurant when I saw a vendor going around with displayed newspapers. I was opportune to flip through the colourful pages. That day was the first time I held a copy of the Tribune paper and I read about the genesis of Boko Haram in the country.
Favour Fijabi, Year 11
I heard the name ‘Nigerian Tribune newspaper’ for the first time on a radio station during the newspaper review but I got familiar with the hard copy not quite long ago. I was glad when I read about ‘The dangers of kissing babies on the lips’ on one the health pages. It was of help to me and it would be to so many people too. There were other catchy stories in that edition as well as series of cartoons that makes one laugh and also teach.
