Members of the Oyo State chapters of the organsations converged on Ibadan to hold rallies and preach the gospel in more unique ways to many Nigerians. It was an unforgettable experience, as the rallies were spiced with exciting different forms of entertainment, including drama. More importantly, scriptural messages, prayers, songs, tracts, inspirational inscriptions dotted every nook and cranny with many people, decked in the national colour of green, white and green attire, gleefully appreciating the organisers to coincide with the commemoration of the Nigeria’s Independence Day. Jubilant residents and passerby described the event as an elixir apparently against the backdrop of challenges facing the country.
In a post-event comment, the national youth pastor of GOFAMIT, Pastor Moses Akinyetu, expressed his delight in joining other Nigerians to celebrate the nation’s Independence Day anniversary. “The 58th Independence Day anniversary is worth-celebrating, despite all the things Nigeria has faced since it gained independence, especially on security and economic problems, Nigeria is still united as one. The stability and unity the country still enjoys is as a result of the prayers of the Church, otherwise, things would have gone worse. This is why we decided to mark the event with the support of the General Overseer of the church, Pastor (Dr) E. O. Abina, in a special way,”Akinyetu said.
The rallies, which took off at the one of the branches of the church at Salvation Army, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State, had hundreds on of youths and adults of the mission, as they traversed Mokola, UCH, Bodija and UI.
Similarly, clerics and worshipers of the New Covenant church had a glorious outing, as they embarked on an ‘endurance trek’ from one of the church’s branches at Ashi Bodija through Iwo Road, Gate, Oje, Bere and other interior parts of Ibadan, before converging on the precinct the popular Mapo Hall.
In line with the theme of the event, Righteousness Exalt a Nation, there were various scriptural and motivational inscriptions such as God bless Nigeria; it shall be well with Nigeria; Nigeria: Be healed, be whole, prosper, amen; Corruption leads to destruction; Wages of sin is death, among others.
Speaking to Tribunechurch, the Conference Pastor of Old-Ife Road, New Covenant Church, Reverend Oluwasuyi Falodun, said it was high time Nigerians allowed God take prominent role in their lives, as well as rule over the nation. He added: “Without Him, the nation is going nowhere. He created us and everything on earth, so he has the absolute power to control the nation well. Human beings have limitations; Jesus, who knows all, should be allowed to take charge of the country.”
On his part, Samanda Conference Pastor, Reverend Olatunji Olaleye, charged Christians sustain the propagation of the gospel and preach repentance of sin and corruption by the citizens to guarantee a peaceful society and a place in heaven.
