Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has assured the new corps members posted to the state of adequate security.
A total of 1,600 new corps members were administered the oath on Friday by Justice Peter Ukande, who represented the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Maurice Ikpambeae.
The State Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youth, Sports Development and Creativity, Hon Terkimbi Ikyange, stated that his administration, in collaboration with security operatives, is committed to protecting the lives of corps members wherever they are posted.
According to the Governor, “Sadly, our nation is currently bedevilled with security challenges, and Benue State is not exempt. However, let me quickly allay your fears and assure you that, as a government, we are poised to ensure that your safety is guaranteed throughout your stay in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our administration, in conjunction with all security agencies, has put in place robust protective measures to ensure the safety of all locations and residential areas of corps members in the state.”
While urging the new corps members to prioritise the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, the Governor described the scheme as the gateway to great fortune.
Governor Alia also encouraged them to use their God-given talents, which have brought them this far, to shape the future of the country.
In her address, the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs Veronica Garba, expressed appreciation to the Governor and the people of the state for their support of the organisation so far.
Mrs Garba urged the new corps members to embrace the four cardinal programmes of the orientation course, which include physical training, intellectual/motivational lectures, sporting activities, and SAED.
