We’ve provided free eye care to 22,084 persons since inception – SEPLAT Energy

The Managing Director of SEPLAT East Onshore Ltd, a subsidiary of SEPLAT Energy PLC, Engr. Ibi-Ada Itotio, has said that the company has provided free comprehensive eye care to over 22,084 persons, performed 726 life-changing surgeries, and distributed 12,307 prescription glasses since the inception of its programme in 2012.

Speaking at the 2025 NNPC/SEPLAT JV Healthcare Programme “Eye Can See” initiative held in Owerri on Thursday, the MD, represented by the Base Manager, Eastern Asset, Emmanuel Otokhine, described the programme as one that embodies the very spirit of SEPLAT Energy PLC’s commitment to sustainable development, inclusive healthcare, and meaningful corporate social responsibility.

He said that SEPLAT Energy believes true corporate success is measured not only by financial performance but also by the positive and enduring impact created in the lives of the people and communities they serve.

He said: “Our approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is rooted in the conviction that business must be a force for good, driving progress, equity, and well-being for all.”

The MD said that the programme, which is one of the flagship healthcare initiatives, is delivered in partnership with the NNPC.

He said, “Our mission is clear: to reduce preventable blindness, promote early detection of eye diseases, and enhance the quality of life for all beneficiaries.”

According to him, their commitment goes further by screening for underlying health conditions such as diabetes and hypertension, providing health education, and building local capacity by training healthcare professionals and community workers.

He said, “This holistic approach ensures that our impact is both immediate and sustainable, creating a ripple effect of hope and empowerment.”

He added that SEPLAT Energy’s CSR strategy is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on good health and well-being, quality education, clean water and sanitation, and economic empowerment.

He acknowledged that their investments are not acts of charity but deliberate, strategic interventions designed to raise living standards, bridge healthcare gaps, and foster inclusive growth.

He noted that their efforts have been recognised through the ISO 26000 endorsement for social responsibility, which is a testament to their unwavering commitment to ethical, transparent, and impactful business practices.

The MD pointed out that as they flag off this year’s “Eye Can See” programme, their collective future is remembered to be brightest when everyone can see it—literally and figuratively.

He said, “The smiles restored, the lives transformed, and the hopes rekindled are the true dividends of our partnership with you, our communities.”

In his remarks, the traditional ruler of Opuoma Dike Autonomous Community, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State, HRH Eze Sylvester Okwuodu, commended the company for doing great work for the development of the oil-bearing communities of Ohaji/Egbema.

He commended SEPLAT for engaging their youths, unlike other oil companies that have operated in the communities without any impact on the people.

A beneficiary of the programme, a 74-year-old woman, Mrs Agness Ukwuoma, thanked SEPLAT for coming to her rescue at the time of need.

Mrs Ukwuoma, who had surgery on her eyes, prayed for God to bless SEPLAT.
