We’re working to restore stable power supply to Alausa secretariat ― LASG

Published by

LAGOS State government has assured that the incessant power outage at the Lagos Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja is already being vigorously addressed and relative stability in supply would be noticed this week, blaming the outage on the faulty diesel engines.

The State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr Wale Oluwo, gave this assurance last Friday while speaking with newsmen in his office.

For some days past now, the government secretariat, which runs on 10.4MW Alausa Independent Power Project (IPP), built at a cost of N3.2billion by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola’s administration and commissioned in 2013, had been in near darkness due to incessant power outage, with ministries and agencies having to now rely on generating sets to supply power to them.

The commissioning of the IPP plant had rendered over 130 high capacity generators hitherto used by various MDAs at the secretariat useless, following the stable power supply enjoyed thereafter.

“By next week, they will finish with them, diesel engines are the back up anyway. Gas engines are the primary sources, while diesel engines are the backup. But the diesel engines that are not doing well, I am sure those ones would also come up. When they are fixed by next week the light will be relatively stable.,” Oluwo said.

The commissioner, who explained that the IPP was being managed and controlled by a private firm, however, said the government would take full control of it after 10 years based on the agreement entered into.

“So a lot of work is already going on with respect to the Alausa power project trying to fix the engines that are faulty, two diessel engines and one gas engine. They are faulty, they are trying to fix them,” he said.
