We’re well positioned to provide early childhood education — Delta govt

The Delta State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary support to make its educational institutions globally competitive, fostering economic and technological development both for the state and the country.

According to Mr. Clement Siakpere, the Executive Assistant to the State Governor on Education Monitoring, with 1,142 public primary schools and 489 public secondary schools, the state is well-positioned to offer early childhood education to young learners.

Siakpere made these remarks on Thursday during a monitoring visit to Essi College 1, Warri, noting that quality education is a key component of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda.

Siakpere, a former Registrar and Secretary to the Council at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, stated that Delta State is on course to become an educational hub, with four state universities bridging the gap and providing access to quality higher education.

According to him, “Delta State’s vision for education is to provide unfettered access to basic education for all children of pre-primary, primary, and post-primary school age, ensuring a qualitative, functional, and free education that prepares them for purposeful living.”

He added, “The mission is to ensure the provision of qualitative, functional, free, and compulsory education to all school-age children, regardless of religion, gender, culture, or disability, including second-chance (adult) learners.”

Siakpere noted that over the years, the state government has maintained partnerships with relevant institutions such as UBEC and TETFUND, ensuring the provision of physical infrastructure, academic staff training and development, book publication, ICT, research, and development, among other resources, in public tertiary educational institutions across the country.

He reassured the public that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration remains fully committed to providing greater support and creating an enabling environment to enhance the performance of the education sector.

The Executive Assistant also commended Governor Oborevwori for his dedication to education development since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

He highlighted efforts such as the construction and furnishing of school buildings, payment of bursaries to students from the state, and the recent approval of scholarships for the children of deceased civil servants and students living with disabilities.

Siakpere added that the funding of projects in the higher education sector demonstrates Governor Oborevwori’s unwavering commitment to providing the necessary physical infrastructure in the state’s public tertiary institutions.

He further emphasized that the greatest beneficiaries of these educational achievements are the underprivileged children, who, due to their birth circumstances, location, or the economic status of their parents, might not have had access to education.
