Sokoto State government, in collaboration with the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), has commenced the construction of 37 roads covering a total of 267.6 kilometres across the state.
Alhaji Malami Galadanchi, Special Adviser on RAAMP to Governor Ahmed Aliyu, made the assertion on Monday while inspecting an ongoing road construction project in Gada Local Government Area.
Galadanchi stated that the projects align with the administration’s 9-Point Agenda, which prioritises improving access to markets for agricultural produce as part of efforts to boost the state’s economy.
He said, “Gov. Aliyu is committed to building a new Sokoto State where every citizen can fully benefit from government initiatives and enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“The administration is working to transform farming communities by providing free fertilizers, farming tools, and improving road access to enhance the market value of agricultural produce.”
According to Galadanchi, 187 kilometers of farm feeder roads have been approved and construction is underway, along with 80.6 kilometers of access roads to ease the movement of goods and services to market.
He added that these infrastructure developments will alleviate challenges faced by farmers in reaching markets and significantly enhance the state’s economic output.
Galadanchi also praised the construction firm handling the Gada LGA project for their dedication, highlighting the positive impact the new roads will have on benefiting communities.
Dr. Bashir Achida, Special Adviser to the Governor on Economic Affairs, reiterated the importance of the roads in stimulating economic growth by providing easier access to markets.
“These roads will reduce transportation costs for farmers, which in turn will help lower the cost of goods for consumers,” Achida said.
Project Coordinator, Malami Tambuwal added that the projects are expected to be completed within 18 months, and are designed to meet the needs of rural residents efficiently.
