We’re committed to change narrative in Zamfara — Women in Agribusiness

The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progressive and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) Zamfara State chapter has inaugurated 14 local governments and 147 ward coordinators, committing to transform the state’s agribusiness sector.

During the inauguration ceremony held at JB Yakubu Secretariat Hall in Gusau, the state capital, the First Lady and wife of the Zamfara State Governor, Hajiya Huriya Dauda Lawal, emphasised NWAPDI’s crucial role in ensuring food security both in the state and across the nation.

Hajiya Huriya reassured women involved in agribusiness of her unwavering commitment and support towards improving their livelihoods, helping them become self-reliant, and fostering job creation in Zamfara.

Earlier, the Zamfara State Coordinator of NWAPDI, Hajiya Shafa’atu Habibu, disclosed that over 20,000 women had been registered as members across the 14 local government areas in the state.

She explained that NWAPDI started with the successful election of national and zonal coordinators from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

“The Nigerian Women for Agricultural Progress and Development Initiative (NWAPDI) successfully conducted the elections of coordinators from the 36 states, including the FCT, on March 7, 2024,” Shafa’atu stated.

She further mentioned that the elections for the 14 local government coordinators and 146 ward coordinators in Zamfara were conducted on March 15-16, 2024, marking a significant achievement for the organisation in the state.

The state coordinator highlighted NWAPDI Zamfara’s achievements, crediting successful collaborations with stakeholders in the state for their progress. She assured that the organisation’s patron, Her Excellency Hajiya Huriya Dauda Lawal, is highly impressed with NWAPDI’s activities and remains committed to supporting women across the state.

In their remarks, Zamfara State Commissioner for Women and Social Development, Dr Nafisa Mohammed Maradun, and Commissioner of Commerce and Industries, Hon. Abdul Rahman Tumbido, praised the governor’s wife for her continued support and encouragement for women in Zamfara.
