Leading Nigerian health insurance provider, Wellness HMO, on Saturday, September 15, adopted a total of three women with their ‘Wellness for Life’ initiative, thereby giving the beneficiaries access to quality health care for the rest of their lives.
The winners were all selected by raffle draw during the Hadassah Healing Conference 2019, which took place on Saturday, August 24 in Ikorodu and Saturday, September 15 at Sabo, Yaba. Each of the winners was also given a ‘Wellness for Life’ gift certificate.
The event was attended by over a thousand women from various walks of life.
Speaking on behalf of Wellness HMO at the event was Mrs Adetutu Afolabi, pharmacist and Executive Director, Wellness.
She said, “Women are like the nexus in most homes, they are the caregivers who many times ignore their own health needs. For this reason, we have a role to play in ensuring that women remain a priority where health needs are concerned. That is the reason we are doing this. The Wellness ‘For Life’ initiative is a gift that these women will enjoy for the rest of their lives; without the worry about health care needs, these women can focus on their families and contribute positively to the society.”
Afolabi said, “last year at the Hadassah Healing Conference when we had the maiden edition of the initiative, three women won, but only one of them showed up. The others didn’t come, possibly because they thought such gifts for a lifetime was not possible. This year, we are back again, and we have picked two people from Ikorodu and the last person we picked today from Yaba. From Ikorodu, we had Mrs. Leji Abosede and Mrs Aribabagun Adejoke. Today, Mrs Ramota Lawal won through the raffle draw.”
The excited Mrs Lawal, who resides in Makoko, Yaba and hails from Ibadan shared with members of the press that she was indeed grateful to have won such a gift. “I am really grateful to Wellness HMO. By God’s grace, Wellness will continue to grow and find favour. I got here about 6 a.m today and I am thankful that I won,” she said in her native language.
Wellness HMO which has been in existence for over 10 years, has on a yearly basis partnered with the Hadassah Healing Foundation to provide free health services and screenings for women and the underprivileged. ‘Wellness for Life’ is simply another of their initiative to create and add more value to these women.
When asked if Wellness HMO would be able to sustain this initiative, Afolabi promised that “As long as Wellness is in business, we will ensure the sustainability of this initiative.”
She also thanked the convener of the conference, Pastor Nike Lamai for creating the platform that gives Wellness HMO the opportunity to add value to the lives of women every year. She equally appreciated the women for attending the yearly conference.
Also weighing in on the state of health insurance in Nigeria, Mrs Afolabi said: “There is the need for better sensitisation to the benefits of health insurance in Nigeria, and the people too need some mind shift on making provision for the future unknown as regards their health, which is the concept of insurance. Health insurance is not a scam, Wellness HMO has tailored their products to meet individuals’ and corporate organisations’ health needs by giving access to quality healthcare at pocket-friendly rates.”
