Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom, has assured that his administration would ensure free and fair local government elections slated for next Saturday, June 3, 2017.
Governor Ortom gave this assurance at the flag off of campaign in Gboko, headquarters of North west senatorial district of the state.
He appealed to supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), not to involve themselves in violence during the council polls.
The governor noted that his administration in the last two years had been able to extend social amenities to the people and noted that only the APC exists as a strong political party in the state.
Ortom urged members and supporters of the APC to work towards clinching the 23 chairmanship and 276 councilorship positions in the election and assured people of the state adequate security during the exercise.
At the event, which was also attended by the deputy governor, Engr Benson Abounu, the state APC chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, and other party chieftains, witnessed the presentation of APC flags to the chairmanship candidates.
