We’ll continue to interface with FG to sustain security —Amosun

OGUN State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Monday, said his administration would continue to interface with the Federal Government to sustain security of lives and property of residents who had been under siege by criminals in some parts of the state.

He said this when he paid assessment tour to Ebute Ibafo and other troubled areas in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, following the bombardment of the creeks by the military, last Thursday.

Nigerian Tribune recalled that many suspected to be militants were killed in a joint operation.

Governor Amosun appreciated the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari for the deployment of military in the affected communities, saying that the battle had dislodged the criminals.

He described the activities of the militants as organised crime that must not be allowed to thrive.

Amosun, who was shocked by the number of jerry cans, numbering hundreds, found on the surface of the water in one of the creeks, ordered their immediate destruction.

He added that about 500 metres to the creeks would be cleared so as to open up the area, saying that the criminals, with this development, would no longer have a place to hide.

“I want to appeal that we should not just leave this place like this. Yes, they have ran away for obvious reasons, but we have what I call a force beyond rears. You know ordinarily that they may want to regroup. They were well organised.

“I think this is a signal for those crooks because I don’t want to call them militants. These are criminals. We are happy that the president has done the right thing which we are grateful for,” the governor added.

He promised that his government would provide necessary support for all security agencies to ensure that the areas were well secured.

“Please, there is still a lot to be done because now they’ve seen this and ran away, but something tells me that with what they have seen, they will ordinary want to regroup and we never can say. Criminals will always be criminals. We should be ready for them.

“We, as a government, will give you the necessary support. We, as a state government, will continue to interface with the Federal Government,” he said.
