We will return govt to the people ― Lanlehin

Oyo State African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has said his governorship aspiration is motivated in the main by the need to return government to the people of the state.

Lanlehin spoke in Ibadan on Thursday evening while addressing a large crowd of supporters and party faithful at the commencement of his local government campaign at Olomi market in Oluyole Local Government Area of the state.

He told the crowd that a government to be led by him and supported by his party, the ADC, would ensure government not only prioritises their welfare but also involves them in decision making in the spirit of inclusive governance.

“We will involve our people in governance because democracy is participatory,” an elated Lanlehin said, on sighting the mammoth crowd who came out for the campaign.

He listed some of the people-centred policies to include the re-introduction of free and qualitative education in the primary and secondary school levels, prompt payment of subventions to tertiary institutions, and the resuscitation of primary healthcare centres throughout the state.

Lanlehin promised a government that would hit the ground running upon inauguration, saying “our government shall establish clean and hygienic abattoirs in all major markets in the state, to stop the stress of going to a central abattoir in Amosun.”

The ADC governorship candidate was also at the Muslim Area, also in Oluyole Local Government Area, where he assured residents of his readiness to improve their living standards by engaging in projects that would directly touch their lives.

Citing the construction of durable roads, provision of potable water, and mass employment for teeming youths, Lanlehin reminded the people of his pedigree as Senator, adding that his achievements remained indelible in the hearts of the people and would build on it as governor.

Lanlehin had earlier met the Council of Oluyole Local Government Baales and Chiefs. led by the chairman, Alhaji Mustapha Bello, who among other requests, implored Lanlehin to resuscitate the Technical College, Ikija, a request Lanlehin said would be granted, if only to honour the memory of former Oyo State governor, Alhaji Lam Adesina, as well as the request being in line with the intended policy thrust of his government.

He assured the people that his government would encourage vocational and technical education, boost entrepreneurship and increase the revenue base in the long run.

“We will provide jobs for our artisans by ensuring our local contractors involve them in project execution. That way, graduates of our trade and technical schools would be glad they attended the schools,” he said.
