We will continue to reward academic excellence ― Elizade VC

The Vice Chancellor of Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo state, Prof. Olukayode Amund, on Thursday said the institution will continue to reward academic excellence by grooming its first class graduates who wish to pursue careers in academics.

Amund who stated this during a press conference to herald the Third convocation ceremony of the university slated for Thursday 25th of April, said five first class graduates have been engaged as Graduate Assistants in the school by the school authority.

The vice-chancellor said as part of the contribution to the national security of the nation, about 50 army officers had been trained on cybercrime and crime prevention, forensic intelligence gathering and other aspects of the national security.

Speaking on this year convocation, Amund said no fewer than 18 students of the University bagged first class degree in various courses of the university out of a total 131 students.

Prof Amund said apart from the18 students that bagged first class, 73 students got second class upper division, 35-second class lower division while the rest five students got third class.

He disclosed that a convocation lecture titled “The University System and the Challenge of Internalisation” would be delivered by the Chairman of First Bank PLC, Mrs Ibukun Awosika on April 24 while the occasion would be chaired by the immediate past governor of Osun State, Mr Rauf Aregbesola.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university would introduce new medical courses into its academic programme preparatory to the introduction of Medicine and Surgery and listed new courses accredited for the school to include

Nursing, Physiology, Medical Laboratory, Sociology,  Anatomy, and Cyber Security.

He, however, said the school is only waiting for National University Commission (NUC)’s approval as all other 30 academic programmes across five faculties have the approval of the regulatory commission.

The VC said the university has good working relationship with top universities in Nigeria and expanding its scope of operations by partnering with some top universities in the world.

He added that the university was among the institutions that won the various grants awarded by the National Communication Commission (NCC).
