We must restructure, Atiku reassures south south

THE Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the February 16 Presidential election, Alh Atiku Abubakar has reassured the people of Niger Delta and South-South that he would restructure the country if he is elected as the next President.

Speaking at the PDP Presidential campaign rally in Rivers State yesterday, the former Vice President promised that he would also reactivate the two ailing seaports in Rivers State, the old Port Harcourt Port and the Onne Port so that they can create thousands of jobs for the people of Rivers State.

He said: “If you vote Atiku, I am the author of restructuring, I will give restructuring to Niger Delta, I will give it to all parts of this country”. You have seen that the APC has not done anything for the Niger Delta, they have not done anything for the South-South. Every development in the South-South, Niger Delta or Rivers State is PDP. So continue voting for PDP.

He also assured that he would protect the constitution of the country pointing out that nobody has approached the courts as many times as he has done to protect the constitution.

“I will protect the separation of powers, I will not interfere with the National Assembly because I believe in checks and balances. I will not interfere with the judiciary because it is part and parcel of checks and balances. I will uphold the rule of law. I will not allow the rule of law to be trampled by anybody”, Atiku assured the thousands of supporters that thronged the Adokiye Amasiemaka Sports Complex in Rivers State, venue of the campaign.

He accused President Muhammadu Buhari of preaching violence through his statement in Zamfara State saying it was not the first time he has done so in the country. “We are not going to allow anybody to knock our heads and make us fight. We want peace, we want development, we want jobs. That is what we want for this country. We are not ready to fight against one another again. So any leader who wants to instigate us to fight against another, we will use our ballot papers to throw him out.”

He also promised to complete the East-West road noting that the project was initiated by the PDP government when he was the Vice President and lamenting that the APC government has been unable to complete the project.

In a solidarity message, former President Goodluck Jonathan called for support for Atiku and the PDP expressing his belief that the PDP Presidential flag bearer has what it takes to move Nigeria forward.

Jonathan said: ” I believe that you all know that as a nation we cannot continue to stay where we are and we believe very sincerely that the only person among all those who are interested now that can lead us and get us out of this quagmire that we are in is Alh. Atiku Abubakar. Abubakar will lead Nigeria forward, he will not discriminate against you, he will not a ratio of 75% and 5%. Every part of the country will be treated equally. So if your son or daughter qualifies to be an IG, he will be appointed, if your son or daughter qualifies to be appointed Chief of Army Staff, he will be appointed and will not be discriminated against. And that is the person that we are all supporting”.

He added that Atiku has been tested through his years as the Vice President to Obasanjo saying that they never discriminated against any part of the country adding “I and you believe that a vote for PDP is a vote for progress”.

On his part, the National Chairman of the PDP Prince Uche Secondus urged the people to vote for Atiku Abubakar if they want a President with energy and innovation.

He accused Buhari of not being aware of anything going on around him emphasising that that was why he must be voted out while describing Atiku as the man with the energy and capacity to work day and night for the good of Nigeria.
