Ekiti state governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has revealed that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state would be engaged to drive the administration’s agricultural policies for the state.

The governor stated this while speaking during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2019 Batch C corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Ise-Orun/Emure-Ekiti.

Fayemi, noted that his administration places more priority on youth development, saying the gesture was the only potent weapon the nation could witnessed all round economic growth and development.

Represented by his deputy, Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, Fayemi, advised the corps members to show personal commitment towards the unity and integration of the country.

He urged them to see their deployment to the state as a call for dedication, perseverance and humility, promising that their sacrifices to host communities would be adequately acknowledged and rewarded by the government.

“My government places high premium on the youths, therefore, corps members deployed to Ekiti state will be engaged to drive the agricultural development of the state because we are aware that not all graduates can get white collar jobs. You are encouraged to go into agriculture, like fishery, snailry and others. Ekiti is rich in farmland and I enjoin you to tap into this blessing, “ He said.

Speaking earlier, the NYSC coordinator in the state, Mrs Emmanuel Okpongete, while revealing that a total of 1,851 corps members were registered for the orientation course, noted that the scheme has been a potent tool for the promotion of national unity and rural-urban development.

She pleaded with the state governor to help in constructing more hostels facilities for corps members and officials in the camp.

“ The NYSC came into existence as an answer to the yearnings of a nation in search of lasting solutions to the problems which plunged her to a 30-month civil war.

“ Since it establishment, you would agree with me that the scheme has been a potent instrument in the promotion of national unity, reconciliation and rural/urban development.”

“Your Excellency sir, like the biblical importunate woman, we will not rest until the ongoing renovation and provision of necessary amenities are completed in this camp. While we remain grateful for the progress so far made, I wish to plead and request for the provision of more hostel facilities both for corps members and camp officials , as well thank you for promising to build us a befitting multi-purpose hall,” she said.
