We have embarked on silent renovation of Nigeria ― FG

Published by

THE Federal Government, on Tuesday, said it had embarked on a silent renovation of Nigeria through the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI), by harnessing the intellectual talents of countrymen in helping to solve the challenges facing the nation.

Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, disclosed this while receiving the award of Most Performing Minister 2018 from The Authority Newspapers in his office in Abuja.

According to him, the ministry is collaborating with the private sector to develop a science and technology museum to give coming generations insight into what our forebears did and motivate them to do more.

He noted that everyone in the country has to be fully involved in the task of building a knowledge-based economy, and urged the media to be involved in disseminating STI to the populace.

Dr Onu described the problems of Nigeria as being more complex than before, insisting that every sector of the society must contribute to the solution.

While appreciating the management, board and staff of the newspaper for the award, the minister pointed out how the newspaper is a trailblazer in reportage of STI in Nigeria.

“The Authority newspaper should throw more light on Science, Technology and Innovation in Nigeria and show more on the research work carried out by the ministry and its agencies,” he added.

The minister called on other media organisations to give premium to science and technology because no country has become truly great without science, technology and innovation.

Earlier, the Managing Director of The Authority newspaper, Mr Madu Onuorah, in his speech, applauded the outstanding intellect of the minister and highlighted key achievements of the minister which included the Executive Order 005 and the high-density biscuit already in the market.

The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Bako Nabasu noted that the minister deserved the award, and appreciated the newspaper for the recognition, as it would spur the ministry to strive to perform more.
