We are providing conducive environment for aquatic tourism —Honourable Banire

The Supervisor for Environment, Ojo Local Government Lagos State, Honourable Olashile Banire, has taken the bull by the horn by creating conducive environment for the enhancement of aquatic tourism for luxurious and fun life.

Honourable Banire who spoke with Tribune Tourism Magazine in his office, said he is building platforms and contents around the growth and development of domestic tourism to revive and promote beach life in the vicinity and enhance the cultural values. “This is strictly for the sake of the new generation to appreciate, behold and identify with as a people with unique and distinctive aquatic and cultural environment.”

He stated that “Lagos as the commercial capital of Nigeria having the presence of Alaba International Market in our area authenticates that people tour for business purposes. Most people outside Lagos talk about Lagos as a world of stress because they view the state from the angle of the devastating effects of urbanisation of the 21st century.

“If one is born and bred in Lagos, it is easy for people of such background to refer to Lagos as a first-rated state in Nigeria in respect to luxurious life, especially in the night, this is evidently seen with the countless number of clubs, hotels and bars in Lagos State.

“The place of aquatic tourism in Lagos cannot be underrated, because the state government has shown serious attention. Pathfinder Beach in Badagry is evidence to the revolutionary state of aquatic tourism in Lagos. The way beaches lure people around the world is not a joke. This is the reason we are to channel more energy towards the growth of aquatic tourism in our own place.

“Our local government is culturally endowed with festivals, such as the Egungun Festival which results to tourism traffic in our community. There is need for us to really focus more on tourism beyond the axis of festivals because of the time-frame constraints.

“Then, nature has pointed to us a new direction; as people are always seen in their siesta period in our waterside relaxing, especially in the evening and during the weekends. This has generated sources of income for our people that are involved in the hospitality sector, either small or large scale.

“Ojo is known as a waterfront environment, I really want to use my office to encourage the domestic tourism. Presently, we are solving problems that can discourage tourists from visiting this area,” he concluded.
