FOLLOWING the incessant attacks on people of Benue state, a group, known as Independent Human Rights and Crime Monitoring Group, has faulted President Muhammad Buhari over his statement that the killings in Taraba were more than killings in Benue and Zamfara combined.
The leader of the group, Patriot Solomon Adodo who decried the statement said Benue people were not in competition with anyone in a killing spree.
He said that any responsible government ought to strive to protect lives and properties of the people instead of comparing killings on states.
According to him, “life of every Nigerian is sacrosanct and sacred, so for us in Benue, we are not in a race of where is more affected.”
“But we are in s race to build confidence on Nigerians, see s society where peace and harmony reigns.”
The group which said that they had moved around some communities in the state to monitor the exercise said that their findings indicate that the presence of the military has brought back herdsmen and their cows.
Adodo said that herdsmen now graze their cows freely in spite of the anti-open grazing law in the state.
While stating that killings still ongoing in the state, citing the Monday massacre in Okpokwu council area of the state, the group called on the president to order the military carrying out exercise cat race in the state to commence shoot on sight to flush out armed herdsmen in the state.
It also called on the military to withdraw from circulation the offensive pamphlet which they claimed encourage the influx of herdsmen and their cows in the state.
The group further asked security agencies to help the state to implement the anti-open grazing law.
