As Lagos State braces up for the birth of Performing Art School of  Nigeria (PASN) in the heart of the city, the founder and lead creative  director of the leading performing school, Olamidun Majekodunmi has  explained that her decision to bring the PAS to Lagos was borne out of  her desire to contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s performing arts.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos State on Saturday to intimate the  public of the expansion of her frontier to the state, Majekodunmi,  an  avid dancer, disclosed that the school, which was founded in 2012, was  established to promote the performing arts industry and to encourage  Nigerian creative passion and talents.

Majekodunmi, who served as a Director of Education for the Nigerian  Young Professionals Forum where she led the architecture of a  nationwide Education Intervention Scheme further disclosed that the  school has over the years created a challenging learning environment,  enabling students to develop in an environment that accelerates their  passion for the arts.

Having experienced the benefits of a well-rounded education and freedom  of learning and skill development, the founder said “I felt it was  necessary to advocate the same for other children, which was led to  the idea in the first place.”

According to her, she had set up a team that had been carefully  selected based on their professional experience in arts with a fusion  of globally sourced and locally generated contents that would create  optimised learning experience for Nigerians.

Speaking further on the school’s expansion to Lagos, Majekodunmi disclosed that  dignitaries from all walks of life are expected to grace the September 2 grand opening of her edifice even as she added that the school will  focus primarily on “contemporary/modern dance, music and instrument,  creative arts, drama among others,” she said.
