Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, has said that water security was paramount in the mind of the administration and has informed the decision to advance the various water projects it inherited since 2015.
He said that it was not due to lack of initiative that the Ministry did not initiate new projects but the fact that, national water security was important and could only be attained by completion of existing water projects in the country, moreso, that government was about continuity.
Suleiman further added that the lifespan of water projects are not always in the short term, thus, the need for continued review of water schemes in the country tailored to meet areas of economic benefits every 15 years.
The Minister who said this at a parley with journalists in Abuja pointed out that building water schemes without following the right processes has always ended in a return to the processes which are critical to its growth.

More compelling to the administration was the litany of projects and the huge federal resources already committed to them, to ignore these projects was to render great disservice to the Nigerian people he said.
“One of the things we pride ourselves in this ministry is that in the last six or seven years. We have restored professionalism.
“We are doing all the new projects that were initiated. They are going through the conventional and natural project cycle. We are not cutting corners. We are not jumping the gun on them. We are following the logical conclusions as professionally required.
“That is one reason you do not see new projects coming out very soon, but also is because we feel that we have a sense of responsibility to ensure that projects that were started are not static by this administration.
“We are determined to have them completed because a lot of money has been spent on them. We saw projects of N6 billion, N10 billion of N20 million, N40 million had been spent. It does not make sense for us to come and just open a new leaf and start a new project, which will not be finished either.
