Wabba to address global employers, workers, govt groups at 108th ILC

IN his capacity as the President of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) and the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Wabba will address the 108th (Centenary) Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC), in Geneva, Switzerland,  next week.

The 108th Session of ILC opened in Geneva on Monday July 10, 2019, with four delegates from each member state, two representing governments, one the employers and one the workers.

Wabba, the President of NLC and ITUC is set to address workers, employers and government leaders across the world on various issues affecting workers and their welfare in the world of work.

During the 108th (Centenary) Session, the Plenary will meet during the whole duration of the Conference, from Monday 10 June to Friday 21 June, except on Saturday 15 June.

All plenary sittings will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Palais des Nations and will consist of the following phases: the Conference opening sitting; a high-level section to receive the visits of heads of State and Government; the discussion of the Report of the Director-General and the report of the Chairperson of the Governing Body; the adoption of standing and technical committee reports; and the Conference closing sitting.

The usual schedule for the plenary sittings is the discussion of the reports of the Director-General and the Chairperson of the Governing Body, as well as high-level visits by heads of government, Presidents and other very important personalities across the globe.

The opening sitting of the 108th Centenary Session of the International Labour Conference in 2019 opened on Monday with an address by a representative of the host country, Swiss Federal Councillor Mr. Alain Berset; followed by a formal opening by the Chairperson of the Governing Body; election of the President of the International Labour Conference; election of the Vice-Presidents of the Conference; and nominations of the Officers of the groups.

The opening events also include, the constitution and composition of standing committees and committees for items on the agenda; proposals for suspension of certain provisions of the Conference Standing Orders and other formalities necessary to set the Conference in motion.

To mark the celebration of the Centenary of the ILO, the Plenary will sit in a high-level section to receive the visits of several heads of State and Government.

The Conference will also receive the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr António Guterres, on its last day Friday, 21 June at 10.a.m. The address by the Secretary-General will be followed by the adoption of the various committees’ outcomes.
