NIGERIANS have been urged to vote for credible, visionary, well-equipped and God-fearing candidates in the 2019 elections. Federal and state governments also were advised to ensure credible and violence-free elections.

The Primate of the Church of the Lord, Most Rev’d Dr. Rufus Ositelu, gave the advice at Ogere-Remo, Ogun State, in his New Year message to the nation.

According to him, “This period is also a time for sober reflection individuals and collectively as a nation in order to avoid pitfalls and chart a new course for the next level to attain great and lofty heights

Ositelu also said the government should guide against malpractices, such as ballot box snatching, vote buying and multiple voting,  during campaigns, hate speech and rigging.

Ositelu who said the roles of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigerians could not be overemphasized in the elections, urged aggrieved parties not to take laws into their hands but seek redress in the law courts.

Ositelu said winning the war against corruption was cardinal, “if we must develop and progress as a people and nation.”

He also advised the government to give due and urgent attention to security of lives and property; restructuring; diversification of the economy; agriculture; power; critical infrastructure, women empowerment; youth unemployment, education, provision of good health facilities and affordable housing.
