My voice is priceless —Snow

Ariyo Ademola also known as Snow is one of the new acts on the bloc that is getting a lot of attention lately. He speaks with SEGUN ADEBAYO about his dreams and plans to take over the music industry with his voice.

They call you Snow, how did you come about the name?

I do live shows a lot of times, so on this particular day after a show at Options 24|7, a lady came to me and told me that when I was singing, she felt something like snow pouring on her body. She said she felt very cold. I think my friends picked it up and started calling me Snow.

How long has your music career started?

It started a long time ago. But I started professionally two years ago. I was in a record label and I later left the label because there were too many artistes in the label and the owners could not provide for us equally. I also left because I found a better option which is understandable.

What makes you think you have found the right option?

I am contented with what I have now and I am sure we are heading for something bigger and stronger. Right now, it is one step at a time for me. So for me, I would say my decision to move on was necessary. I needed to make the right move that would give my music career a facelift.

How did you meet the 007 management?

I did a song and gave it to a guy to listen to and he said it was good. He said he would introduce me to a friend who could help my career.  When I met him, the guy listened to my song and said he liked it. Though, we had our issues when we started but now that the company is getting stable, we are putting things on ground gradually.

Do you think you are doing enough to push your career?

I am not saying I am doing enough because I am not the best, but what I believe is that everything is all about time. When it is your time, it will look as if you are performing magic. I just have to keep doing what I know how to do best and other things will follow.

How would you describe your music journey?

I have gained a lot of experience about music.  I engaged in a lot of competitions.  I was one of the qualifiers of the MTN Project Fame Season five in Ibadan. I was on Nigerian Idols and even Nero 2007 where I got to the final stage. Though I started as an acapella singer, but when you try to push your career and things are not looking up for you because you don’t have the wherewithal to push through, you have to take things easy and retrace your steps. I have gone through a lot in music, but I will share the story later. This is not the best time for that.

What is the next thing for you, what are your plans?

I am promoting a new song that is entitled Na so. The song is a love song but the title is a slang that was coined from the song.  The song was produced by Chris Beat and mixed by Suka Sounds. I believe in God for whatever I do.  Music nowadays has to do with money and I am trying to get enough funds to push my dream. All I need to do is concentrate on my music while my team would handle the rest.

What do you think is that significant thing about your music career that will push you to the next level, what do you have that others don’t have?

I might not be the best because I was told that the beautiful ones are not yet born, but once you but go first and you know what you are doing, one day,you will get there. I am a very good singer because lyrically, I select my words. My voice is priceless. That’s my selling point.

Do you think your voice can bring you into limelight?

It is not always about voice alone because we have so many artistes out there that can sing very well but it takes a lot to be an artiste.

Where did you grow up?

I was born and bred in Lagos State.

Do you think 007 will push your career to the level that you want?

Let me say yes and the reason why I said that is because Rome was not built in a day. Everything has to be steady. As I said earlier, being contented with what you have can also help. I just have to work together to make things better.

Who influenced your music career?

The first person that actually comes to my mind is 2face, I did not start my music from the church like most people say, I was just listening to one R&B one day and I liked it.
