My voice makes the difference —Tclassic

Fast-rising Afro pop sensation, Tolulope Ajayi, popularly known as Tclassic, has a strong desire to push his music career to the next level. The talented songwriter whose songs have continued to dominate the airwaves speaks with SEGUN ADEBAYO about his music career and plans for the New Year.

As one of the most talked about fast-rising acts in the music industry, what do you think about your career at this point?

It’s been a success so far, and I see myself going even higher in the industry. The journey has not been easy but with the support of my fans and a solid team, I don’t see anything stopping me. I am a moving train. My voice will make the big difference for me.

How did your growing up shape your career path?

Unknown to many people, I came from a musical home. My mom and I wrote songs together back then; also the social events at school where I found myself singing most times. Basically, I grew up in music.

At what point did you make music your choice of career?

If I’m being honest, it was a means to an end. Things weren’t really working out financially at that point in my family, and I already had the passion for music, so I decided to try and make something from my passion. Thank God we are getting close to the bigger picture.

So, how has it been since you started?

It’s been a whole new experience for me. It’s been fun although not easy at first cause I wasn’t used to replying people I had never met but I had to adapt, and I thank God for it.

Are you sure you have what it takes to push your music to the desired height?

The music game is a serious competition right now. One artist recently said “Upcoming don plenty pass fans”. I believe it’s all about God’s grace right now and constant hard work.

How has it been since you got signed to Mix Naija Entertainment?

It’s been a big blessing for me. Most people don’t even know I had some songs before my joining the label, and now I can boast of songs that are being aired across major radio and TV stations in Nigeria.

People say your music does not seem to be getting the vibe it needs to push you through?

I don’t think it’s possible for the entire world to fancy you, everyone has their own opinion. However, I’m doing my best to take corrections wherever I can so that I can appeal to as many people as possible. Fans are a very important part of the game and I care about them a lot.

Honestly, these days in the industry, promotion is almost as important as the content you’re promoting. That being said, I’ve been having a lot of studio sessions, trying to sample different producers and different vibes. Consistency is very important to becoming a relevant competitor in the music game.

Do you write your songs?

No. I don’t see anything wrong in it, though. Some people are songwriters, while others are artists (performers), sometimes you need an artist to bring life to your lyrics and if you’re getting paid for it, that’s a good deal.

Your new song, Isabella has been getting good reviews and the video has also been creating the buzz for you. How do you feel?

I feel good. We’re all looking for attention in one way or the other, and I think I’m getting a fair share, so, yes, I feel fulfilled. I am enjoying the attention and positive reactions. It tells me I am making a major progress. Trust me, 2018 is my year.

Why did it take you so long to give the industry a piece of yourself?

If I’m being honest, finances were a major factor, many people probably have the same issue of having content, but they can’t promote their works. Without finances, it’s very rare to see an artiste flourish. I am working hard and I know we will soon hit the goldmine.

How rewarding has music been for you?

It has its rewards. Not just in the financial aspect, I’ve also started to gain fame. I’ve also gotten exposure to some things that I don’t think I would have even known about.

Music is something I have passion for and like I said, it’s rewarding. It’s a win win.As much as there is a competition, there’s still a chance for all of us. I think my music is working and will continue to work for me. I have my own unique contributions in terms of style and there’s still a lot more that I have to offer.

What next after Isabella?

More songs for now. I want to get my music out there for people to enjoy. I’ve been working on a few and maybe in the nearest future, I’ll release one or two.
