Visage boss celebrates late Gov Akeredolu’s wife on completion of PhD

The wife of the late Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Chief Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has completed her PhD programme in fisheries from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).

Anyanwu-Akeredolu, last Friday, defended her PhD thesis titled ‘Comparative bio-technical models for the production of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) fingerlings using a solar-powered recirculating aquaculture system’.

The 71-year-old student revealed that she has a master’s in fisheries and added technology to her PhD programme because she was fascinated by renewable energy and its power to change outcomes.

Her external examiner, Professor Funmilola Agbebi, congratulated her for her work and the completion of the programme.

On Wednesday, Visage Media’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, took to social media to eulogise Anyanwu-Akeredolu for her academic feat.

“Four years ago, the former First Lady of Ondo State, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, told me she was running her PhD programme at the Federal University of Technology Akure.

“I wondered the time she had to add the PhD academic thing to her table. But that is her and her demand for excellence. She demands more from life every day, and that is what makes her exceptional,” the Visage Media boss stated.

According to Iwuchukwu, Dr Anyanwu-Akeredolu started her PhD programme in 2011, but paused it, only to reactivate it five years ago.

He stated that the lessons for him from the former First Lady’s accomplishments are that “No time is too late or early. Madam Betty got her PhD at 71 years old, which is a big deal.”

Iwuchukwu further stated that Dr Anyanwu-Akeredolu is a proud feminist who believes that girls can be more.

“Because of her influence, I employed more women for my business than men because she showed me how it is done,” he added.
