Following a viral video of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, revealing that money had been sent to all senators by the clerk of the National Assembly ahead of their holiday, Nigerians reacted.
According to the video seen by Tribune Online on Wednesday, the Senate President, while addressing his colleagues before the adjournment motion was moved, said money had been sent by the clerk of the National Assembly to the senators to enjoy their holidays.
“In order to enable all of us to enjoy our holidays, a token has been sent to our various accounts by the clerk of the national assembly,” Akpabio was quoted in the viral video.
However, the video has generated criticisms from Nigerians who took to social media to call out the lawmakers, describing them as unbothered by the current situation in the country.
A Twitter user, @VictorIsreal_, wrote, “Godswill Akpabio is a disgrace. He didn’t realize he was on Live TV when he said that a token has been sent to the senators’ accounts for their holidays. The situation of the country doesn’t concern them. They just want to steal money. God punish anybody supporting this government 📌”
Another user, @Jaypeegeneral wrote, “He didn’t realize he was still on a live TV, they are suffocating the poor with suffering and enjoying themselves. They don’t care about you and I. SAD!”
“They keep sharing money meanwhile Nigerians are suffering this is an Act of wickedness” @osamuyi90 opined.
@Gudgovenac wrote, “This how Almighty God will keep on exposing them so that Nigerians especially those that wanted to lose their lives defending them will understand that they don’t care about us but only after their selfish political aggrandizement.”
@Sport_doctor2 wrote, “Senator Godswill Akpabio is most definitely going to be the WORST ever Senate President in Nigeria’s history. His Achievement so far; making fun of Nigerian’s hardship with the “Allow the poor breathe” joke, rubber stamping Tinubu’s controversial ministerial list without scrutiny, sharing money with Senators for holidays on live TV. This man came in with huge corruption charges, so I wasn’t expecting anything different. Shameless Leaders!!!!”
