VIDEO: My kidney failed, heart was weak, liver shut down during childbirth — Bambam

Nollywood actress and former Big Brother Naija housemate, Bamike Olawunmi, popularly known as Bambam, has shared a personal account of the life-threatening complications she encountered during childbirth.

Speaking in a recent episode of “Me and My Girls” on Fertitude, Bambam opened up about the often-overlooked realities of postpartum care and stressed the importance of self-advocacy for expectant mothers.

She recounted how she suffered critical health issues, including kidney failure, a weakened heart, and liver shutdown, during the delivery process.

According to her, the situation became even worse when her baby detached from the placenta, placing the child at risk of oxygen deprivation.

She added that most cases of stillbirths are usually a result of negligence by either medical personnel or expectant mothers.

She said, “A lot of stillbirths are just due to negligence. It’s either the doctor was not sound, the nurse didn’t do her job on time, or they arrived at the hospital late.

“My kidney failed, my heart became weak, my liver, everything was just shutting down because of childbirth. She (her child) had detached from the placenta; if I was a second late, she would have lost oxygen, and I would have had a stillbirth.

“Every time I look at her, I just say, ‘what if?’ That word tormented me; what if the doctor wasn’t attentive? What if the nurse didn’t do her due diligence? It haunted me for a while; I had to get therapy to walk me through being grateful. That’s about all. Thank God. Thank God that I got there on time; thank God the doctor was sound; thank God the nurse did her job.”
