Tech billionaire Elon Musk has unveiled the next-generation humanoid robot, Optimus, describing its capabilities as “boundless.”
The announcement was made during the highly anticipated “We, Robot” event on Thursday night, where Musk also introduced his company’s latest innovations in self-driving vehicles, including the Cybercab Robotaxi and the Robovan.
Musk claimed that Optimus “can do anything you think of,” highlighting its potential to revolutionise everyday tasks such as walking dogs, babysitting, mowing lawns, and even serving drinks.
He articulated a long-term vision for the robot, projecting its price to range between $20,000 and $30,000.
“I believe this will be the most significant product ever created,” Musk asserted, suggesting that a future may come when everyone on Earth will desire an “Optimus buddy.”
The concept of the Optimus robot was first introduced by Tesla in 2021, with the aim of creating a versatile machine to undertake tasks considered dangerous, repetitive, or mundane for humans.
The latest model, Optimus Gen 2, boasts enhancements like faster walking speeds, improved hand mobility, and advanced sensors, enabling it to perform more complex tasks, such as folding shirts.
