The journey of Victor Ayobami Ajayi has been marked by significant career and personal milestones. The sail has taken him around more than two continents. While the laurel that comes with such a journey is something everyone looks forward to, nevertheless, only a small fraction of people are disciplined and well organized to follow through the process.
Born on July 14, 1988, at Jebba, Kwara State. Ajayi spent a large part of his childhood between Lagos State, Ogun State, and Kogi State. A grandson of a missionary preacher. Like a young man posited for greatness, Ajayi was swiftly taught the word of God, this serves as a compass for his life navigation.
While his mates were playing around and running after frivolities, Ajayi found solace in two things. Music and books. The books of his uncles became the go-to means of education for him, while in primary school, he was already getting engrossed in books meant for higher institution students.
The constant movement of his grandparents led him to about six primary schools. These schools were situated in Lagos Island, Mushin, Jebba, Kwara State, Aiyeteju-Amuro, and Mopa, Kogi State. He graduated from a catholic school named St. Peter’s Nursery and Primary School, Mopa, Kogi State.
His secondary school education began at Cruise Memorial College Mopa Kogi State, a school owned by Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA). He finished it up at Itolu Community High School, Ilaro, Ogun State where he represented the school at various competitions such as the Cowbell Mathematics competition, and States JETS finals among others. In addition to being the Senior Prefect of the school, he also finished as the best-graduating student of the 2003/2004 set.
Victor Ayobami Ajayi later spent two years at Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, Ogun State for his Ordinary National Diploma (OND) in Electrical / Electronics Engineering. He graduated in 2007 with a Distinction.
He later went to Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) for his first degree in Electrical / Electronics Engineering, he graduated with (Second Class Honours, Upper) in 2011. Between 2011/2012, Ajayi obeyed the clarion call (NYSC) as he served in a secondary school in Lagos state.
He leveled up with a Master’s Degree in Industrial Automation at the Engineering Institute of Technology, Perth, Australia. He graduated in 2018.
Between 2012 and 2021, Ajayi worked in a myriad of capacities at Chevron. He started as an Instrument Control System Specialist, and later Cyber Security Specialist, he left the organization as a Senior Cyber Security Engineer in August 2021.
He is a proud member of the following professional bodies: Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), International Information System Security Certification Consortium (ISC2), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), International Society for Automation (ISA) among others. He currently holds the following industry certifications including CISSP, GICSP, CISM, IEC62443 Design Specialist, COP, etc.
He later worked with Ernst & Young UK LLP as a Cyber Security Manager. He left the organization in December 2022. Ever since then, Ajayi has been more into private service while also serving as a cyber security mentor with Springboard, a US-based company.
Victor Ayobami Ajayi currently resides in the United Kingdom with his wife and two children.
Victor Ayobami Ajayi’s journey sounds like a fairytale in Nollywood movies. From being a Jebba-born boy to now frolicking with the biggest cyber security companies around the world. His voyage is a testament to a disciplined mind, a focused soul, and a goal-orienting boy.
At just 35 years of age, it is glaring that Ajayi still has a lot to offer the world, this time, it might be out of what he is known for, but I hope when that time comes, the world will be eager and prepared to receive it.
