Controversial social critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), was detained by the Nigeria Police Force on Thursday evening.
Though the exact reason for his detention remains unclear, his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed that Otse was taken into custody after responding to a police invitation.
Adeyanju, in a post on his facebook, revealed that VDM had previously complied with a similar invitation the day before.
“Our client, VDM, has been detained after honouring a police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has consistently maintained that the Nigerian Police are our friends, even when we all know they are not,” Adeyanju stated.
Attempts to reach the Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to his line went unanswered.

VDM’s recent use of a police uniform in a video has sparked controversy. In the video, he donned the attire and humorously introduced himself as the “Chief Superintendent of Police of the Online Division.”
The police subsequently condemned his actions and launched an investigation to trace the source of the uniform.
In response to the backlash, VDM issued an apology on Thursday, advising Nigerians to seek proper authorisation before wearing police attire to avoid potential misunderstandings or legal consequences.
