COMRADE Samson Almuru, the Adamawa branch Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, has the lauded Federal Government for the transparent and successful verification of their members.
Almuru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Tuesday that members of the union were very delighted with the conduct of the exercise, describing it as the best so far.
NAN reports that the officials of the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) were in Yola to verify about 8,000 federal pensioners from Adamawa.
“The verification exercise was well arranged and conducted; pensioners were provided with free meals and were attended to diligently.
“As far as we are concerned, this is the best verification exercise so far conducted by the Federal Government in the state.”
In situations where many of pensioners lost their original documents due to the insurgency, Almuru said that the verification committee had reasoned with the affected pensioners and directed them to obtain court affidavit.
He said with the affidavit, they could then go to the state pension board and obtain the photocopy of their documents.
He appealed to the state government to emulate the Federal Government pension contributory scheme to end the suffering being experienced by the state and local government pensioners.
