As part of activities marking the 60th posthumous birthday and legacy of late playwright, actor and lecturer, Solomon Iguanre, gather momentum, wife of the deceased, Mrs Abimbola Iguanre has disclosed that dealing with the demise of her husband has not been an easy journey but she is determined to honour his legacy in a style befitting his impactful life.
Speaking with R ahead of the event, the widow stated that the occasion will witness the launch of a book, titled The Vulture and the Dying Boy; the establishment of a foundation in Solomon’s name and the commemoration of his milestone post humous birthday.
R gathered that Dr Olusegun Olu-Osayomi will be reviewer of the book.
According to her, decision to celebrate his posthumous birthday was not without careful consideration, as she consulted with some of her late husband’s friends wholeheartedly supported the idea.
“I used to look forward to his arrival on Fridays because that when he comes home. In the last one year and more, sometimes I would look at the door thinking he would walk in as usual but that’s not going to happen anymore, He would give money to widows and even the underprivileged, including street urchins. He was loved by many people,” she reminisced.
The event which will hold at the Wole Soyinka Arts Theatre, University of Ibadan on November 29 will witness activities set aside to celebrate the founder and creator Laffomania, a platform that launched the careers of notable actors like Afeez Oyetoro also known as Saka, Dr. Smart Babalola among others.
Dignitaries from all walks of life, including Vice Chancellor, Babcock University, Professor Ademola S. Tayo; his Royal Highness, Olu Baakun of Baakun, Abiodun Ogundiran; Vice Chancellor, while VC, Redeemers University, Hammed Yerima, will be the chief launcher of the book. Professor Femi Osofisan and Mrs Grace Adeosun will also be part of the gathering.
The event, organised in collaboration with Babcock University, NANTAP, Ana-Oyo, and SWAF, will welcome members of the literary and theatrical spheres who will gather to honor Egunare’s memory and celebrate his invaluable contributions to Nigerian arts and culture.
