VC counsels new students as FUTA matriculates 4,772

Published by

THE vice chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adebiyi Daramola, has admonished the 2016/2017 matriculating students of the institution to be industrious, enterprising and to support the management.

While congratulating the 4,772 new students on their admission to the university, Professor Daramola said, “It is, indeed, a pride to be admitted into FUTA, where you will be expected to study very hard and be certified worthy in character and learning, in order to build a successful and rewarding future for yourselves.”

He told them that they were the few selected out of the 19,000 students who applied for admission to the university after passing through a keenly competitive selection process.

Daramola reiterated that the university required synergy among stakeholders, who the new students are an integral part of.

He then urged them to key into the vision of the institution, which is to be a world-class university of technology and a centre of excellence in teaching, research and learning.

He told the new students that the matriculation oath must not be breached, and that all regulations must be complied with and constituted authorities respected at all times.

The vice chancellor warned the students to shun acts inimical to peace on the campus, especially cultism, urging them to be law-abiding and to refrain from associating with unlawful groups.

Thereafter, the registrar, Dr (Mrs.) Modupe Ajayi, administered the matriculation oath on the students.

One of the new students, Wisdom Udugba of the Department of Biotechnology, described the occasion as joyful. He promised to live up to the matriculation oath and work hard to graduate with a First Class honours.

Abdulbashit Okende of the Department of Meteorology and Climatic Science, described FUTA as a unique university, saying he would make the best of the opportunity to build his future.
