VC assures welfare and devpt of new students •As FUT, Minna, matriculates 522

Vice chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Professor Abdullahi Bala, has assured that the management of the institution will always maintain the welfare and development of new students.

He stated this at the 32nd matriculation ceremony of the institution last week Thursday at the Suleimanu Kumo Convocation Square, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano, Niger State capital.

The VC advised the students, especially the new intakes, to always be guided by the rules and regulations of the university, which are spelt out in the students’ handbook.

He also urged them to adequately make use of the facilities at their disposal such as: the libraries, laboratories, workshops and Information Technology Services (ITS) in order to enhance their learning and research.

He advised them to avoid associating with people of questionable character and integrity or those who could distract them from attending to their academic pursuits.

Professor Bala warned the new students not to be involved in any kind of examination misconduct or acts that are injurious or could constitute a threat to their stay in the university.

He emphasised the need for the students to register and use the university’s health services on both campuses, instead of consulting quack medical personnel.

He also informed the students that there are various units in the university that could help them address their challenges, such as the Students’ Affairs division, which would provide them with guidance and counselling, the SERVICOM unit and the directorate of Quality Assurance and Productivity.

He charged them to utilise the sporting facilities provided on both campuses for their physical development, while assuring them that the university would soon address the problem of transportation on the campus.

The VC congratulated the new students on their admission and implored them to maintain the university’s peaceful co-existence and live peacefully with the host community.

He noted that 10,159 candidates applied for admission into the university, while only 5,242 were successful in getting admission, but a total of 5,225 scaled through the screening exercise and were duly registered.

The registrar of the university, Mr Amos Kolo administered the matriculation oath to the new students.
