“Varsity teacher, Ph.D at 24, a journey just begins”

24-year-old Nemitari from Rivers State, an upwardly mobile computer scientist, last month (November 2017) became the youngest lecturer at the Edge Hill University, United Kingdom. He says the journey has only just begun.

NIGERIA is definitely not in short supply of young men and women who have set their sights on achieving great things and putting the name of the country on the global map for positive news.

Nemitari Miebaka Ajienka is only 24 years old, but he not only now has a Ph.D tucked under his armpit; he has become the youngest lecturer at the Edge Hill University, Ormskirk, Lancashire, United Kingdom – and he is currently enjoying the limelight he so deserves.

In excitement, on November 20, he announced his own resumption as the youngest lecturer at Edge Hill on Twitter:

Born in Okrika, Rivers State, in 1992, Nemitari is the second child of the seventh vice chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Joseph Atubokiki Ajienka and Mercy Ajienka.

From September 2010 to July 2013, he attended the Middlesex University, United Kingdom, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) with First Class honours in Information Technology and Business Information Systems.

From September 2013 to August 2014, he was at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom, where he obtained a Master of Science (MSc.), with distinction, in Computer Science.

In September 2014, Nemitari became a graduate teaching assistant (undergraduate) Software Engineering module in the Department of Computer Science, Brunel University, London and now, with a Ph.D, last month resumed as a lecturer in Computer Science at the Edge Hill University.

He majors in Software Engineering, Theory of Computation and Programming Languages. He is an SAS programmer, SAP associate (SAP SE is a German multinational software corporation, headquartered in Walldorf, Baden- Wurttemberg. It makes software to manage business operations and customer relations), certified SAS Base 9 programmer, and a Blockchain consultant.

Nemitari’s works focus on object-oriented software engineering, and his interests include machine learning, big data, Blockchain and business intelligence, open-source software development and reuse, software architecture, software evolution, dependencies and maintenance.

In his Twitter post, he appreciated the efforts of one of his lecturers, Dr. Andrea Capiluppi, for his support and Ph.D. supervision.

Prior to joining the department, he had worked in the software industry as a Blockchain/distributed ledger developer and developer on a funded research project at Brunel University, London, where he completed his Ph.D.

His Ph.D thesis has the title ‘An Empirical Study on Object-oriented Software Dependencies: Logical, Structural and Semantic’.

At the Edge Hill University, Mr Ajienka teaches on the OOP (Object Oriented Programming) module and supports a range of modules across the institution’s Department of Computer Science.

A member of the data analytics research group, Ajienka’s research interests include data-driven object-oriented software engineering, including software maintenance, quality, change impact analysis and refactoring.

He was said to have in the past, focused on the interplay between object-oriented software dependencies (structural, logical and semantic dependencies) for reduced maintenance and impact analysis efforts.

His MSc Thesis (2014) at the University of Birmingham’s School of Computer Science was ‘An Application of Game Theory in the Resolution of Stakeholders Requirements Conflicts in the Context of Software Development Projects; while his Ph.D Thesis (2017) at the Department of Computer Science, Brunel University London, was ‘An Empirical Study on Object-oriented Software Dependencies: Logical, Structural and Semantic.

He speaks English, French, and German and is a member of the British Computing Society.
