Varsity donates relief materials to Batsari IDPs in Katsina

AL-QALAM University, Katsina, has donated relief materials worth over N300,000 to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by bandits attacks in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.

Presenting the items to the beneficiaries on Wednesday in Batsari, the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Ado, said that the gesture was aimed at complementing governments’ efforts at reducing the hardship being faced by the victims.

Ado, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Dr Kabir Kado, described the attacks as senseless and inhuman.

‘‘Al-Qalam university community is equally concerned about the senseless and ungodly killings by these bandits who attack innocent people in Batsari and its environs.

‘‘We decided to extend a helping hand to the survivors of the inhuman acts to reduce their sufferings,’’ he said.

He prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive those who died in the attacks and prevent future occurrence.

He also prayed for peace to prevail so that the IDPs could go back to their communities and continue with their normal life.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Salisu Garba, thanked the university for the donation.

He emphasised that IDPs in Batsari local government would not forget the gesture shown by the institution at the difficult period of their lives.

He said that he received the donation on behalf of communities of Yar’gamji, Wagini, Kasai, Yasore, Sabongarin Lado and Dan Geza.

Some of the items donated included bags of rice, millet, sugar, garri, several cartons of spaghetti, jerry cans of vegetable oil, as well as cartons of detergent and soap.

News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 18,000 people were displaced by the bandits in Batsari council.
