Vale College conducts final test for Atinuke Ige scholarship award

The Vale College and Vale Tutorial College, Ibadan, held the final phase of the Justice Atinuke Ige Memorial Scholarship award at the weekend with the aim of impacting positively on the Nigerian educational system.

The Justice Atinuke Ige Memorial Scholarship Award, which   commenced some 10 years ago, was specificlly designed for brilliant students from financially-challenged backgrounds in public secondary schools in Oyo State as parts of the legacy programmes of the former Governor of old Oyo State, Chief Bola Ige.

The director/chief executive officer, The Vale College and The Vale Tutorial College, Mrs Funso Adegbola, said that the scholarship scheme was also instituted as “a means of giving back to the society; touching the lives of poor but brilliant youths so that when they ecome responsible individuals in future, they too can assist others.’’

She commended the state government over its efforts in the education sector, while she equally lauded the efforts of the staff and students of the college and other relevant stakeholders at ensuring that the yearly event yields the desired result.

The husband of the CEO, Mr Gbenro Adegbola, commended the beneficiaries for taking active part in the yearly exercise, saying that they all have personal roles to play in shaping their individual lives and urged them to develop themselves to enviable standards in life.

Mr Muyiwa Ige also emphasied that this is the 10th year of giving scholarships to students from public secondary schools in the state, saying that with the various presentations by the young and vibrant students, the future of education in the country is bright.

Also, the principal, Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Mrs Oyedoyin Alabi, lauded the organisers of the scheme.

While recalling the contributions of Chief Bola Ige to the education sector in Nigeria, she said the late governor was a lover of formal education during his lifetime.

She, commended the beneficiaries for singling themselves out of many and urged them to brace up for the challenges ahead.

The result of the competition in the male category had Emmanuel Afolabi emerging  in the first position with 75.1 percent; Blessing Odeyemi second, with 74.4 percent and Oluwatomiwa Akinloye, third with 71.3 percent.

In the female category, Rasheedat Aiwinnilowo emerged first with 74.3 percent and Heritage Oladipo second with 71.3 percent, while Titiloye Williams came third with 66.3 percent.
