THE University of Benin (UNIBEN) has decried the suspension of the institution’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre over an alleged breach of the code governing the 2019 JAMB registration exercise.
In a statement in Benin yesterday by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Michael Osasuyi said that the action was hastily done and without proper investigations.
Osasuyi denied levying applicants over N700 as the cost of registration for the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer Based Test (CBT).
He explained that the examination body has the sole responsibility of vending of Pins, while the school’s Information Communication Technology ( ICT) Computer Based Test (CBT) Centre charged the duly approved N700 only as the cost of registration.

Osasuyi who decried the decision by JAMB which had earlier suspended UNIBEN CBT Centre insisted that the decision amounted to denying the institution’s access code to clear the backlog of over 300 candidates.
“Since we are not vending pins, JAMB has the authority over pins vending and can track the source of each pin they have dispensed.
“It is not proper to for JAMB to withdraw our access without proper investigation of the accusation. For clarification, University of Benin is not vending JAMB PINs. We only attend to the candidate who has their pins and they pay only N700,” Osasuyi said.
He pleaded with JAMB to restore access to the University Portal to enable candidates process their registration without delay as the centre has a record of all the candidates that it registered to date and the N700 paid is on record for auditing process.
Osasuyi who commended JAMB for swiftly putting up measures to check extortion of candidates in the registration exercise said the University and JAMB remain partners in the quest for quality education delivery in the country.
The spokesman noted that the school has partnered with JAMB over the years without blemish, adding that the allegation was a serious embarrassment.
He added: “We look forward to your prompt release of our access code to be able to clear the backlog of over 300 candidates as a result of the withdrawal of our access.”
