UTME: Group trains 350 students on computer appreciation in Malammadori, Jigawa

THE Malammadori Development Foundation, a Jigawa-based NGO, on Saturday said it trained 350 candidates for the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Chairman of the group, Alhaji Umar Dakindo, made the disclosure at the closing session of the exercise in Malammadori, Jigawa.

Dakindo said the exercise was designed to expose the candidates to basic Information Technology (IT) and computer appreciation.

He said the training would prepare the students to enable them to write their examinations and enhance computer literacy at the grassroots.

“The purpose is to train them on how to be computer literate for the purpose of getting their JAMB examination. We trained 350 students.”

Dakindo explained that the participants were drawn among the indigent students in the area, who registered for the forthcoming JAMB examination.

The chairman disclosed that the foundation had expended over N3.7 million on the exercise.

According to him, the training exercise was conducted in collaboration between the group and a development organisation, Mobilisation for Development (M4D).

Dakindo commended the Government Girls Secondary School, Malammadori, and the local government for making its computer centres available, which facilitated smooth conduct of the exercise.

He called on students to use what they learnt to enable them to pass the examination.

The chairman stressed the readiness of the association to support government’s policies and programmes, aimed at enhancing education development in the state.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 3,000 students are sitting for the UTME-CBT examination in Hadejia and Kafinhausa examination centres.

The examination was conducted smoothly at the Binyaminu Usman, Polytechnic and Sule Lamido University, Kafinhausa.

Malam Isa Labaran, a centre officer, described the exercise as hitch-free and successful.

Labaran noted that the examination started at about 9a.m, adding the examination went smoothly without technical problems.
