USAID partners with Kebbi govt to boost health sector

The USAID Nigeria State Accountability, Transparency, and Effectiveness (State2State) activity has partnered with the Kebbi State Government to establish a technical working group aimed at enhancing the state’s health sector.

This initiative follows a two-day quarterly coordination meeting of the Kebbi Universal Health Coverage Technical Working Group, held at the Soul Care Hotel in Sokoto.

During the meeting, Usman Faleye, the State2State Team Lead for Kebbi, highlighted the gaps in leadership and governance within the state’s health sector.

He announced that the newly formed leadership and governance management system would address these gaps by providing strategic oversight for health policy implementation, promoting accountability and transparency in health projects, and ensuring effective resource mobilization.

Jafar Muhammad Augie, Executive Secretary of the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency, praised the initiative, stating that the technical working group would play a critical role in overseeing policy implementation and fostering accountability and transparency.

He also noted its importance in formulating strategies to achieve universal health coverage.

Abubakar Ahmad Jega, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Budget and Planning, commended USAID’s support and emphasized the importance of technical groups in aligning policies with the state’s development plans.

He assured that the ministry would ensure coordinated activities and appropriate budget allocations for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Dr. Zaki Abubakar Zaki, Chief Medical Director of Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital and Acting Permanent Secretary, stressed the need for effective leadership and resource allocation within the healthcare sector

. He advocated for improved collaboration with partners to achieve universal health coverage goals.

The establishment of the leadership and governance management system is anticipated to significantly improve healthcare delivery in Kebbi State by addressing structural challenges and enhancing the efficiency of health projects.
