A region in the state of Michigan, Northern Lower Michigan, is under a Winter Storm Warning. Forecasters predict up to 16 inches of snow and winds reaching 45 mph, creating hazardous travel conditions and whiteouts.
The warning, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS), remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday.
Residents of affected counties, including Otsego, Grand Traverse, and Wexford, have been urged to avoid non-essential travel. Highways such as I-75 and US-131, along with open areas, are expected to experience severely reduced visibility due to blowing and drifting snow. Bridges and overpasses are likely to become dangerously slick, heightening the risk of accidents.
The storm, which began early Wednesday, is expected to peak by Thursday morning, with snowbelt areas like Kalkaska and Benzie counties bracing for the highest accumulation.

According to CountryHerald news, authorities warn that roads in these regions may become impassable as snowfall intensifies. Emergency management officials are advising residents to equip their vehicles with survival kits, including food, water, and flashlights, in case of roadside emergencies.
Power outages are also a concern, with heavy snow and strong winds posing a threat to tree branches and power lines. Snow removal crews are appealing to residents to keep streets clear for plows and emergency vehicles to ensure swift responses during the storm.
Motorists are strongly advised to postpone travel until the weather improves. Those who must travel are urged to prepare their vehicles for winter conditions, drive cautiously, and stay updated on road closures and weather developments through local authorities.
